Greek Orthodox Priest to Speak at Ritz Auditorium
Father Larry Legakis from Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Toledo will speak at 8 p.m. Oct. 9 in The University of Findlay’s Ritz Auditorium. The public lecture is free.
His visit is part of the Religious Studies Lecture Series, which provides an enhanced learning environment for exploring critical issues relevant to religious studies. Father Legakis will be talking about how some of these concerns are faced by the Greek Orthodox Church.
Father Legakis’ family immigrated to the United States in 1974 and moved to Royal Oaks, Michigan, where he grew up. After graduating high school in 1996, he went on to attend Hellenic College in Brookline, Massachusetts as a seminarian. He continued his education by enrolling in Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology where he graduated in May of 2003.
In 2004, Father Legakis was assigned the lay assistant position at Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. Later that year he was appointed the Deaconate at St. George in Bloomfield, Michigan. Also in 2004, Father Legakis was ordained to the priesthood by Metropolitan Nicholas in Cincinnati. Following that, he served at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Louisville, Kentucky before moving to Toledo.
Father Legakis is married to Jennifer, whom he met during his seminary at Holy Cross. They have a daughter, Vasilia.
