Benefit Readings of ‘The Vagina Monologues’ to be Held at The University of Findlay for V-Day, Open Arms Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services
The V-Day organization, as part of the V-Day 2012 global campaign, will present two benefit readings of Eve Ensler’s award-winning play, “The Vagina Monologues,” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24, in the Powell Grimm Theatre on the campus of The University of Findlay.
Tickets are $5. Please call the UF Box Office at 419-434-5335 or purchase at the door, if available. Proceeds will be given to Open Arms Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services in Findlay. The benefit production at Findlay is sponsored by Alpha Psi Omega and The University of Findlay’s theatre department.
Hailed by The New York Times as “funny” and “poignant” and by the Daily News as “intelligent” and “courageous,” “The Vagina Monologues,” which was first performed off-Broadway by Ensler, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women’s experiences.
Last year, more than 5,800 V-Day benefits were held around the world raising funds and awareness to end violence against women and girls. These events raised more than $5 million through performances of “The Vagina Monologues;” readings from V-Day’s “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer” and “Any One Of Us: Words From Prison;” and screenings of V-Day’s documentary “Until The Violence Stops.”
V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Ensler’s play, “The Vagina Monologues,” and other artistic works. To date, the V-Day movement has raised more than $85 million and educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it; crafted international campaigns; launched the Karama program in the Middle East; reopened shelters; and funded more than 13,000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses in Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Kenya, South Dakota, Egypt and Iraq.
V-Day was named one of Worth Magazine’s 100 Best Charities in 2001, one of Marie Claire Magazine’s Top Ten Charities in 2006, and was named as one of the Top-Rated organizations on Great Nonprofits in 2010.
