CFA Institute Recognizes University of Findlay’s Finance Program
The University of Findlay has been included in the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Institute’s University Recognition Program for its superior Bachelor of Science in finance offering. The program has been acknowledged as incorporating at least 70 percent of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge and placing emphasis on the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice within the program. This program positions students well to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, which has become the most respected and recognized investment credential in the world.
Entry into the CFA Institute University Recognition Program signals to potential students, employers and the marketplace that UF’s finance curriculum is closely tied to professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students to sit for the CFA examinations. Through participation in this program, the University eligible to receive a limited number of student scholarships for the CFA Program each year.
“Students in these programs study the Candidate Body of Knowledge, which includes the core knowledge, skills, and abilities identified by practitioners worldwide as essential for successful practice, said Neil Govier, CFA, head of education at CFA Institute.
“This achievement gives our finance program the prestige that it deserves,” said Kevin Renshler, Ph.D., College of Business dean. At the same time, it will define the program’s expectations and provide benchmarks for continuous improvement in the coming years. This will clearly distinguish our finance program from others in the state and give prospective students a reason to attend our institution.”
Joon Young Song, Ph.D., CFA, associate professor of finance, prepared the application for the University Recognition Program earlier this fall. “The CFA Program is widely considered the investment profession’s most rigorous credentialing program,” he said. “The CFA program includes a series of three exams. Fewer than one in five candidates who begin the program successfully complete it and go on to earn the coveted CFA charter, the ‘gold standard’ for investment professionals.” He added, “There are only eight universities recognized by this program in the state of Ohio and our University is the only one in Northwest Ohio.
