College of Education Hosts Inspirational Educator Stacey Bess

The University of Findlay’s College of Education will host an event featuring inspirational speaker, educator and author Stacey Bess at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in the Alumni Memorial Union Multipurpose Room. Future and in-service teachers are encouraged to attend. The event is free and open to the public.

Bess will speak on the importance of service, mentorship, leadership and overcoming adversity. She draws from her inspirational personal story of teaching homeless children in a small shed known as The School with No Name. During her 11 years at the school, Bess overcame many struggles, including a battle with thyroid cancer. She learned that by teaching love, self-worth, personal power and courage, she could reach children who had been previously labeled “unteachable.”

Bess has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Utah. As a leading advocate for the educational rights of impoverished children, she has been recognized with several awards including the National Jefferson Award for Greatest Public Service.
