SeaHwa Jung, DMA, has been hired as the University of Findlay’s director of choral activities. He will direct UF Concert-Chorale and University Singers, and also teach voice and music appreciation.
Jung replaces Micheal Anders, Ph.D., who retired in this capacity earlier this year.
Jung began his conducting career during undergraduate studies at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, where he obtained a musical background in voice and keyboard. He then directed various choirs during his master’s degree studies at Colorado State University, where he graduated in 2007. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in 2012.
Prior to his UF appointment, Jung directed the choral ensembles and orchestra, and taught music appreciation, music history, conducting, foreign diction and various singing classes at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. He also taught graduate courses at the College-Conservatory of Music, and high school music classes at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy.
Jung summed up his teaching philosophy about music in one word: enjoyment. “My role as music director and music professor is to not only help people understand music, but to enjoy it too,” he said. Patience is required, but appreciating a performance by drawing upon the basics of musical mechanics and history makes the time and effort worthwhile, he explained.
“I am very excited to share and enjoy music with University of Findlay students and those who attend our choral events,” Jung emphasized.
