You could call it the most “attractive” gift ever presented to The University of Findlay! Marcia Latta, vice president for university advancement, unveiled a 7-ft. likeness of the University’s mascot, Derrick The Oiler, created completely from duct tape, on Thursday, April 9. The sticky icon will reside in the Learning Commons inside Shafer Library.
Created by UIS Manager Dan Haas over a period of three months, “Duct Tape Derrick” required more than 37 rolls of tape to cover its Rebar frame. Haas took on the project to promote school spirit and just have fun. His donation will go in the archives as one of the most unusual gifts that university advancement has recorded.
In honor of the new man on campus, the University held a “Duck Your Head” graduation cap decorating contest where entrants were required to use duct tape in their creations. Contest winner is Candace Barath, a senior animal science major.
