Findlay’s College of Education Earns Highest Rating in ODHE Science of Reading Audit
The University of Findlay’s College of Education (COE) is pleased to announce that it has received a Fully Aligned designation, the highest possible rating, on the Ohio Department of Higher Education’s (ODHE) Science of Reading audit.
This audit was conducted pursuant to Ohio legislation requiring all institutions of higher education in the state that prepare teachers to undergo a comprehensive review of their literacy preparation programs to ensure alignment with the science of reading. As part of this statewide initiative, every Ohio institution offering teacher preparation programs participated in the ODHE review process.
“We are proud of this recognition and grateful for the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to high-quality, evidence-based literacy preparation,” said University of Findlay President Katherine Fell, Ph.D. “This work reflects our faculty’s unwavering focus on preparing future educators who are well-equipped to support all learners.”
The COE underwent an external, independent review of its programs by the ODHE. The review examined instructional quality and program alignment to ensure that the COE’s programming meets the highest standards of evidence-based literacy instruction.
“Our faculty take seriously the responsibility of preparing teachers who can translate research into practice,” said Julie McIntosh, Ed.D., dean of the College of Education. “This recognition reinforces our belief that strong literacy instruction is essential for long-term student success.”
The designation recognizes the COE’s teacher preparation programs, with a particular focus on literacy instruction.
