First Summer Research Scholars Award Recipients Announced
Six students have been selected to conduct research with faculty from May 6 through June 16 as part of the University of Findlay’s first Summer Research Scholars Program. Each will receive a $2,000 stipend and support for individual project research materials, which will be funded with a UF Goal Getter Grant procured by Ed Nyman Jr. Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance and Physical Therapy.
The participants include:
Madeline Hoffman (Mentor: Edward Nyman Jr., Ph.D.)
Project: The mechanical performance of gymnastics spring floor components and their associated impact on in-vivo musculoskeletal performance: a sensitivity analysis
Major: Health studies/pre-physical therapy
Career Goal: Pediatric physical therapist
Kevin A. Lewis (Mentor: Nathan Tice, Ph.D.)
Project: Glycation of Amino Acids for ALS treatment
Major: Chemistry
Career Goal: Synthetic research chemist
Jeanine Messak (Mentor: Justin Rheubert)
Project: Intraspecific comparisons of sperm morphometrics and morphology of striped and spotted Aspidoscelis costata in a single population
Major: Animal science/pre-vet and biology
Minor: Chemistry
Career goal: Large animal veterinarian
Allison Potter (Mentor: Brandon Forshey, Ph.D.)
Project: Quantitative analysis of parasite levels in ruminants
Major: Animal science with a pre-vet concentration
Career goal: Mixed animal veterinarian for small ruminants
