Lok C. Lew Yan Voon, Ph.D., Named University of Findlay College of Sciences Dean

University of Findlay is pleased to announce the appointment of Lok C. Lew Yan Voon, Ph.D. as the new Dean of the College of Sciences. Lew Yan Voon will join the University on August 1, 2023, bringing with him extensive experience in teaching, research, and service.
Lew Yan Voon was previously a professor of physics at the University of West Georgia, where he has also served as Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics. He has previously held administrative appointments as department chair at Wright State University and as dean of the School of Science and Mathematics at The Citadel. He received his education from the University of Cambridge, the University of British Columbia, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Throughout his career, Lew Yan Voon has achieved significant milestones in all areas of teaching, research, and service. As a junior faculty, he received the NSF CAREER award, and raised over $360,000 for creating a teaching lab in photonics. As department chair, he oversaw an eight-fold increase in external funding of the department, a 50% increase in faculty FTE, the creation of the first endowed chair position in the college, the doubling of majors, and exceeding the national average of female faculty. As dean at The Citadel, he spearheaded the creation of a nursing program, and raised over $10M from a private donor to fund the nursing program. As dean at the University of West Georgia, he worked with faculty to get a $50M building proposal into the Campus Master Plan.

I was attracted to the University of Findlay due to the focus on experiential learning and the goal of inspiring students to serve and lead,” said Lew Yan Voon. “I look forward to working with everyone to help take the College of Sciences and UF to the next level. I am excited to be returning to the Buckeye State!”
