Marcia Sloan Latta Named Vice President for University Advancement

The University of Findlay announces the appointment of Marcia Sloan Latta, Ed.D., as its new vice president for University Advancement as of Aug. 28. In this role, Latta will lead UF’s advancement division, which comprises fundraising, the Mazza Museum and the Wolfe Center for Alumni, Parents and Friends.
“I am delighted to welcome Marcia to the UF team. She will bring years of successful leadership experience and tremendous talent to our advancement work,” said President Katherine Fell, Ph.D.
“I’ve watched with great interest in recent years as UF has strategically broadened its mix of academic programs and has emphasized experiential learning, global education and community service,” Latta said. “It’s clear the faculty and staff are committed to each student’s success. I’m excited to work with UF alumni and the community to advance this mission and raise funds for scholarships, study abroad opportunities and community outreach.”
Latta’s prior higher education experience includes serving as vice president for advancement at DePauw University, where she was responsible for the alumni and development functions, organizing and launching a $250 million campaign, and overseeing the 18-month national celebration of the university’s 175th anniversary.
Latta also served as vice president of the Bowling Green State University (BGSU) Foundation, and senior associate vice president for advancement of BGSU. She was the campaign director for “Building Dreams: The Centennial Campaign for BGSU,” a $120 million campaign, resulting in nearly $150 million raised – the largest fundraising effort in northwest Ohio history. During her tenure, she was responsible for leading a team that more than quadrupled the amount raised annually.
In addition to her academic experience, Latta has done volunteer work in Costa Rica, worked in hospital philanthropy and served as the founding president of her local community foundation. She has served as a volunteer fundraiser for many civic causes and is active in professional associations, including the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Association of Fund Raising Professionals (AFP) where she is a past president of the Northwest Ohio chapter. Latta is a director on the boards of F&M State Bank and the International Research & Exchanges (IREX) Board.
Latta received a Certified Fund Raising Executive designation in 1995. She holds both a master’s and bachelor’s degree in communications and a doctor of education in leadership and policy studies from BGSU. She has completed Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education’s Management and Leadership in Education program. Latta has received numerous awards, including AFP’s Northwest Ohio Outstanding Fund Raising Executive Award, 100 Women of Influence from the Northwest Ohio Girl Scouts, and national and regional awards from CASE and Women In Communications.
In 2002, Latta was invited to present in Moscow, Russia, at IREX’s symposium on higher education for the former Soviet bloc countries and more recently presented at an international conference on development fundamentals in Istanbul, Turkey. Latta has served as a faculty chair for CASE, and presenter for AFP, the Association of Governing Boards, the Mid American Development Conference and for many non-profit boards. She also has written on governance issues for CASE Currents and AGB.
