After visiting several prisons on field trips, Max Bryant could picture himself in the criminal justice field. “I was so fascinated by the facility and how it is like its own town. It has its own culture and ways to do things.” Max was most influenced Professor Beitzel because he always kept classes engaged by using a theoretical approach to teaching which led to discussions and debates.
“I am a Juvenile Probation Officer. After a youth is adjudicated, the judge makes a journal entry that orders for them to participate in therapy, a group, drug services, community service, restitution, and go to school.”
What’s most rewarding to Max, though, is watching a young youth realize they need to make a change in their life. They learn to trust Max because they realize that he’s there to help them and is taking an interest in them. When he left the Juvenile Correctional he was touched by the kids who wrote him a good-bye card. “These were the kids who threatened to kill my family and who I had to restrain when they lost control, but the fact I was there meant more to them than they would admit in person.”
