Memorial Service at UF to be Held in Remembrance of Former Board of Trustees Member
A memorial service to celebrate the life of the late Richard “Dick” White, a former University of Findlay Board of Trustee who died Sunday, Oct. 27, will be held on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2:30 p.m. at Winebrenner Building’s TLB Auditorium on campus. A reception will follow at 5 p.m. in Winebrenner’s atrium.
White served honorably as a UF Board of Trustees member for 16 years, from 1996 until 2012. During his tenure on the board, he was a member of the Executive Committee, where he provided leadership as vice chairman for 10 years between 2001 and 2011. He also co-chaired the Business Affairs Committee for 12 years and was a member of the Buildings and Grounds, Compensation, and Architectural Committees, as well as the Committee on Trustees.
White worked more than 40 years for Marathon Oil Company, retiring in 1999 as senior vice president of Marketing. He also served as a trustee of the Marathon Oil and USX Foundations. Because of his business acumen and expertise, he contributed valuable financial expertise, insight, and judgment that positively influenced UF board deliberations. In exercising leadership in his generous support of the University, he promoted its welfare and its students through his service.
White was awarded an honorary Doctor of Business degree in 2006 in recognition of his service, leadership, loyalty, and dedication to the University of Findlay. He was granted the status of Trustee Emeritus in 2012 in recognition of his many contributions to the University, and was named the 2013 Dana Chair, serving as a mentor to the 2013 Dana Scholars.
He will be missed by his friends at UF and in the community.
