The University of Findlay Dance Marathon group will kick off “Miracle Week” on Monday in preparation for its annual event slated to start Saturday, Nov. 22, at noon and last until 10 p.m. All money raised will be donated to Mercy Children’s Hospital, which is part of the Children’s Miracle Network of hospitals that dance marathon organizations across the nation financially support.
“The funds we raise help pay for things like family’s doctor bills, updating the (hospital) playroom, updating medical equipment, improving the autism clinic, and so much more,” said Sierra Hutton, executive director of UF Dance Marathon 2014.

When UF began participating in 2010, it raised $2,200. Last year, the group raised more than $15,000. This year’s goal is set at $20,000.
A total of 168 were registered to dance last year, said Hutton. The group hopes to have more this year. Registered students pay a $5 fee. T-shirts, prizes and food are provided. They are encouraged to stay on their feet and dance for those who can’t. The total amounted raised for the hospital is announced at the end of the event, which will be held in the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex.
Prior to the big event, the group holds several other fundraisers. This year, those have ranged from late-night cookies and milks sales to car washes.
Next week’s events will further promote the dance marathon and its cause, and get people more motivated to participate. Monday will feature a movie night in the Alumni Memorial Union. Hutton said a Miracle Network family will watch “Tarzan” with UF students. On Tuesday in the union, students will be making tutus to wear to next weekend’s dance marathon.
On Thursday, Nov. 20 anyone from the University or the community who patronizes City BBQ and mentions Findlay Dance Marathon while ordering will enable 20 percent of the business’s proceeds from that sale to be donated to the cause.
