New University of Findlay Students Participate in Annual Traditions

The University of Findlay welcomed students back to campus last week with Welcome Week activities, annual New Student Arch Ceremony, New Student Orientation Service Projects, and more.

More than 700 new students participated in this year’s long-standing tradition of marching through the Griffith Memorial Arch, signifying the beginning of their academic career at UF. Students won’t walk back through the arch until they graduate and head back out into the world.

Over the weekend, these new UF freshmen also provided assistance in a number of ways to people and non-profit organizations in the Findlay community as they participated in the 20^th annual Student Orientation Service Day. In total, over 60 projects were completed this year by students and volunteer project leaders.

The Student Orientation Service Day projects included landscaping, cleaning, writing inspirational letters, and food collection service projects at local non-profit organizations, schools, and churches. Crystal Weitz, UF’s director of service and community engagement, said “On Saturday, UF hosted our 20^th Orientation Service Project! We were able to introduce our new students to their new hometown, create lasting memories, and serve our community. We are thankful for our community partners for hosting our new students and to our new students for serving!”
