Three Honored With UF Founders’ Award
One of the highest honors a graduating senior can receive from the University of Findlay, the Founders’ Award was presented this year to three students: David May, Sarah Reinhart, and Nathan Zuercher.
“These three Oilers represent the very best of the University of Findlay,” said Brandi Laurita, vice president for student affairs and athletics. “They exemplify the ideals of UF’s founders: excellence in scholarship, leadership, service to others, and unwavering personal integrity, both in and out of the classroom.”
David May, of Ohio City, Ohio, is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work, bringing with him a sense of advocacy, servant leadership, and care for others. He has completed multiple social work internships at county children’s services agencies, residential treatment settings, and nonprofit organizations.
He serves on the President’s Student Council, has held extensive leadership roles within the Theta Chi fraternity, served as a peer mentor, participated in international service experiences in Cuba, Ecuador, and Guatemala, and contributed more than 400 hours of volunteer service.
“Throughout his time at UF, David has been a consistent voice for student engagement and belonging,” Laurita noted. “His commitment to service, justice, and faith-based leadership embodies the true spirit of the Founders’ Award.”
Sarah Reinhart is a Doctor of Physical Therapy student and an exceptional scholar whose academic record reflects sustained excellence, including a 4.0 GPA at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Working as a personal care provider with Seneca County, she supports an individual with cerebral palsy through daily living assistance and guided exercise, working under the supervision of a physical therapist.
A Carey High School graduate, she is a member of the Oiler women’s cross country team, recognized with numerous honors, including multiple All Conference selections and the G-MAC Women’s Cross Country Elite 26 Award.
“Sarah’s work reflects empathy, professionalism, and a clear dedication to improving quality of life for others,” Laurita explained. “This commitment to service and leadership makes her a powerful example of what it means to be a Founders’ Award recipient.”
Nathan Zuercher, of Smithville, Ohio, is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Management.
Nathan is an undergraduate student representative on the UF Board of Trustees, a role that reflects trust and responsibility. He is a member of the President’s Student Council and the presidential search committee, and has assisted the University Advancement office with alumni and development events.
He has served as a lead assistant equipment manager for the UF football team and as a Resident Assistant, in campus ministry leadership, and traveled abroad for Christian missionary service.
“Nathan exemplifies what it means to be an engaged, purpose-driven leader who lives out the mission of the University,” Laurita said. “His ability to lead with integrity, collaborate effectively, and approach challenges with professionalism has left a lasting impact on our campus.”
The three Founders’ Award winners were announced at the April 10 Symposium for Scholarship and Creativity awards ceremony. They each received a certificate and monetary award.
