UF Alumna Publishes Debut Novel “Knightess”
J.A. Stein, a 2010 graduate of University of Findlay, has published her debut novel “Knightess” with plans to expand the series. “Knightess” is a medieval tale of a woman running from her past until a knight discovers her secret and tries to use it against her. His discovery forces her to face the reasons she’s running, and she realizes that it’s time to step out and own who she is. It is a tale of courage, strength, resilience, and the complexity of love.
Stein knew she wanted to be a writer since she was in the seventh grade. “My reading teacher in seventh grade made books magical. I really started writing outside of school around then,” said Stein. “Now it is super exciting to use my English degree and accomplish my dream of being an author.”
Writing was always a passion of Stein’s that she describes as an itch that bubbles under the surface of her fingers. University of Findlay allowed Stein to follow multiple passions and uses a lot of what she learned in her writing to this day. “I went into college thinking I was a good writer, and I learned quickly that I had so much further to go,” said Stein. “The Advanced Writing class, where I was taught to hide the true message of the story behind the rest of the story. To say something without saying it. That was a pivotal moment.”
When it comes to advise for future writers, Stein had this to say “Don’t give up! Don’t let people tell you it’s too hard, it will be hard, but there are very few things in life that are impossible. Let every step lay the groundwork for the future, and keep working to improve. You do that, then one day you will accomplish that dream.”
