UF Dean Serving in Scotland as Part of Rotary Exchange
The Rotary Club, District 6600 is conducting a Group Study Exchange (GSE) with District 1020 in Scotland the entire month of March. GSE is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women in their initial years of their professional life. The District 6600 team will stay with four Rotary clubs in Linlithgow, Biggar, Dumfries and Dunbar. Each club will provide vocational visits, cultural experiences, fellowship opportunities, and Rotarian interaction.
Every two years a GSE travels to a wide range of places. Last time it was hosted in Australia.
Julie McIntosh Ed.D., Dean of the College of Education at the University of Findlay, was chosen as the team leader. After this process Julie and a panel of interviewers choose four people who will represent District 6600 well.
The four people chosen to represent District 6600 in Scotland are as follows:
- Joy Walk, reference librarian at Ritter Public Library in Vermillion, sponsored by Vermillion Rotary Club
- Emily Samlow, staff lawyer in the Wood County Court of Common Please, Bowling Green, sponsored by BG Rotary
- Sarah Jackson, manufacturing cost accounting manager for General Aluminum Manufacturing Company, Cleveland, sponsored by Elyria Rotary Club
- Emily Goetschius, field archaeologist and patient representative specialist for Mobile Hyperbaric Centers, Cleveland, sponsored by Elyria Sunrise Club
The District 6600 schedule is being determined by each of the Scottish rotary clubs that are hosting them, and even though they are staying with one club they are also visiting other clubs.
Every district attending has created a presentation about their district and which project they’re proud of. For example Findlay’s rotary club has done a lot to support the Hancock Historical Museum, literacy programs, polio eradication, and the Golden Apple Award that recognizes teachers. It also has done a lot with the Marathon Performing Arts Center.
As for what exactly will the rotary club be doing, McIntosh is not sure because they have not received a schedule yet.
District 1020 of Scotland will visit District 6600 in Northern Ohio in May of 2017.
There is also a Facebook Page where biographical information will be posted of the team members and where you can get more information on the Rotary Club here in Findlay.
