Fifty six thousand pounds of canned food – it’s a hefty goal, but The University of Findlay, in partnership with its dining service, Sodexo, think they can reach it for Sodexo’s Helping Hands food drive.
The aim is to break UF’s record, reached in 2013, of 55,211 pounds collected within a 12-hour period. This year’s event will take place on Nov. 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Henderson Dining Hall on Frazer Street. A drive-in drop-off station also will be located in front of the Alumni Memorial Union on Frazer Street. Additionally, between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., Helping Hands will be collecting donations at Findlay’s eastside Walmart, at Kroger on Sixth Street, and at Great Scot supermarket on Broad Avenue.
To count toward the goal, all food items must be within the expiration dates and must not be damaged. Each item will be recorded in a logbook and witnessed by community and University representatives. Only cans collected on Nov. 4 will count toward the goal.
The items will be donated to Findlay’s CHOPIN Hall, a food pantry that assists needy community members.
