UF Recognized for Supporting Military Students and Their Families
Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has named the University of Findlay to its Military Friendly® schools list for the fourth time. The 2017 Military Friendly® schools list honors colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.
UF was one of 1,273 schools in the nation to be recognized for its support of the military community. More than 30,000 Veterans Affairs-approved schools throughout the nation were considered.
“Our ability to apply a clear, consistent standard across thousands of employers and schools gives veterans a comprehensive view of those striving to provide the best opportunities and conditions for our nation’s veterans,” said Daniel Nichols, Chief Product Officer of Victory Media and head of Military Friendly® development.
The 2017 list features a significant assessment change. Three data sources were considered, including publicly available data from the U.S. Departments of Education, Veterans Affairs and Defense; personal opinion data from veteran employees or students; and proprietary Military Friendly® survey data from participating organizations. Survey scores were combined with each school’s ability to meet six areas critical to success, which were identified as student veteran retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence and loan default rates.
Complete survey methodology is available at http://militaryfriendly.com/press-media/.
The Military Friendly® media and website also includes the schools list and its separate list of employers, interactive tools and search functionality to help military students find the best school to suit their unique needs and preferences.
Each year survey topics and questions are reviewed and developed with the assistance of a third-party research firm and the Military Friendly® Advisory Council, a group of independent subject matter experts and industry partners representing the fields of veteran education and employment (board members are listed on the website). The survey tabulation process, methodology and weightings that comprise the 2017 list were independently verified by Ernst and Young LLP.
Additionally, a Military Advisory Council was formed this year. It is comprised of post-9/11 veterans who represent the military community that Military Friendly® serves, and provides valuable feedback about what veterans are seeking from schools and employers.
