UF Theatre Presents Free Online Improv Show Directed by Alumna
University of Findlay’s Theatre Program will present a free online improv show titled, “The End of the World Improv Showcase,” that will feature improvised scenes and original sketches. Show times will be on Thursday, Sept. 24 and Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.; and Friday, Sept. 25 at 9:30 p.m.
PLEASE NOTE: The Friday night Late Night Performance may contain adult language and content.
The performance will be live-streamed via Facebook. To view the livestream, visit the University of Findlay Theatre Facebook page and UFTV’s YouTube Channel. Gather your friends and have an online watch party or enjoy interacting with the “audience” via chat. Stay home, be mask free, and connect!
Directed by comedian and alumna Sam Woodman ’10, the live-streamed show will feature 12 masked students and explore a variety of improvisational comedy forms, audience engagement, and spontaneous creativity.
Woodman graduated from Findlay with a Bachelor’s in Theatre Performance and minor in business marketing and business administration. After graduating she moved to Chicago where she pursued improv and comedy.
Returning to Findlay has been nostalgic for Woodman. “This is a place where I found my passion and continue to live it,” Woodman said. “It’s a small but mighty program. You get a lot of hands-on experience whether your performing, building sets, or helping with tech.”
She said, as a director of an improv show, she has to be flexible, adaptable, and communicate in a way not to hinder creativity but to navigate the students’ visions.
Meriah Sage, assistant professor of theatre, said the Theatre Program chose to do an improv show because it will stretch the students in new ways.
“It will introduce them and engage them with a different and very popular genre of comedy and theatre,” Sage said. “Improv and life are unscripted and often unplanned. The more we learn to listen and build on what is given in the moment, the more positively we can engage with life- and theatre.”
