University of Findlay Expanding Academic Offerings
The University of Findlay is expanding its academic offerings with the introduction of several new graduate-level certificates designed to meet students where they are and provide flexible, career-focused pathways for advancement.
The newly approved certificates include accounting, business fundamentals, finance, human resources, operations management, and trauma-informed educator.
The certificates are designed for both working professionals and students seeking to build specialized skills, advance in their current roles, or explore new career opportunities without committing to a full degree program. The programs offer a streamlined, practical approach to graduate education, allowing students to gain relevant knowledge that can be applied immediately in the workplace.
According to Patti Abels, professor of accounting and graduate chair in the College of Business at the University of Findlay,
“The newly created business certificates are designed to equip both working professionals and students with the skills needed to succeed in an evolving business environment. As the professional landscape continues to change, these certificates offer a clear pathway for up-skilling and career advancement to meet shifting demands. The skills gained through these certificates can be applied immediately in the workplace. Additionally, the certificates meet the growing demand among employers, professionals and students for short-term, career-focused credentials that enhance employability and workplace readiness. These certificates can also be applied toward a future Master of Business Administration degree.”
The trauma-informed educator certificate reflects the University’s continued commitment to preparing educators to support students in meaningful and impactful ways. According to Julie McIntosh, dean of the College of Education at the University of Findlay, “Every behavior tells a story and with the right tools, educators can learn to read it with compassion instead of reacting with frustration. The Trauma-Informed Educator Certificate equips you with research-backed strategies to respond to challenges with confidence, build stronger relationships, and create classrooms and spaces where every student feels safe, seen, and ready to learn.”
With these additions, the University of Findlay continues to align its programs with workforce demands and student needs, offering flexible, relevant options that support both immediate career goals and long-term educational pathways.
