The University of Findlay has established a new Early Assurance Partnership with Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) for biology and biochemistry majors pursuing careers in medicine. Ohio University is Ohio’s only public osteopathic medical school and the state’s top producer of primary care physicians.
The partnership allows qualified students to be identified early in their academic journey, saving time and resources with a guaranteed pathway to medical school. Eligible students will begin coursework at the University of Findlay and complete their bachelor’s degree before transitioning to one of three Ohio University campus locations to earn a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree in as little as seven years.
“The University of Findlay was selected among an elite group of academic institutions to partner with Ohio University to provide this enhanced opportunity, in which students will benefit from excellent advising and mentorship from both institutions, greater access to diverse learning environments, and a potential fast-track toward a degree in osteopathic medicine,” said Nikki Hintze, vice president for enrollment and marketing.
The inaugural Fall 2027 cohort will have access to unique experiential learning and networking opportunities, including mentorship from OU-HCOM through both virtual and in-person interactions. A select number of students will be offered direct entry into medical school and may can shorten the time they spend preparing to practice medicine.
“We are proud to be part of a small, exclusive cohort of institutions that can offer our students a direct pathway into OU-HCOM. Through this partnership, our students will have opportunities to build relationships with health care professionals, gain meaningful hands-on experiences, and develop the skills and confidence they need to prepare for success in medical school,” said Bethany Henderson-Dean, PhD, associate professor and chair of the department of biology.
Information about this early assurance program will be shared with students who have applied and been accepted to UF as a biology or biochemistry major and met the minimum requirements for this pathway. Selection of students into the early assurance program is limited and will based upon applications and interviews to identify and support eligible candidates.
