University of Findlay Recognizes Outstanding Faculty Advisors

University of Findlay is pleased to announce the winners of the 2021 Outstanding Undergraduate Faculty Advisor of the Year award.
The award, developed by the Academic Advising Committee, recognizes faculty advisors who go above and beyond when working with students. This year, there were 31 nominations submitted by students. A winner was selected from each of the University’s six colleges after careful review by a committee.
This year’s winners are:
- College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences: Hiroaki Kawamura, Ph.D., associate professor of Japanese, and director of modern language
- College of Business: Eric Stoller, assistant professor of teaching in sports management and coordinator of internship and co-operative programs
- College of Education: Kerry Teeple, Ed.D., assistant professor of teaching in education
- College of Health Professions: Robin Walters-Powell, Ed.D., associate professor and program director of the social work program, and chair of the healthcare services department
- College of Pharmacy: Shantanu Rao, Ph.D., assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences
- College of Sciences: Brandon Forshey, D.V.M., assistant professor of animal science and director of pre-veterinary medicine
“The Faculty Advisor of the Year award is important to recognize the amazing job our faculty advisors do on a regular basis to help students on so many levels: academic, personal, and more. And, in particular, the faculty advisors who go above and beyond when working with their students,” said Liz Sabel, assistant dean of student success and deputy Title IX coordinator. “This award’s inaugural year was 2018-2019 and while it took a one-year hiatus, we were pleased to be able to honor faculty advisors in this way.”
Each of these six faculty advisors receive a one-year NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) membership to support their professional development in advising, and also will be considered for the University of Findlay Faculty Advisor of the Year award which will be formally announced in the fall.
