University of Findlay to Relocate Arch
The University of Findlay today announced plans to relocate the historic Griffith Memorial Arch to a new, central location on campus, outside of the College of Business and the Center for Student Life building, to foster a new level of community and connection amongst its student body, faculty, and staff.
The Arch’s new location will place it at the heart of daily campus activity, increasing visibility and engagement among students, faculty, and visitors. As part of this transition, the University will begin phasing out the longstanding “pass-through only twice” tradition in favor of more flexible and engaging uses of the space.
With the Arch’s relocation comes an exciting opportunity to introduce new traditions. Preliminary plans include enhancing the Arch with integrated speaker systems and Bluetooth capabilities, allowing students to curate shared playlists and host spontaneous gatherings between and after classes.
Additional concepts currently under consideration include:
- Motion-activated greetings from faculty and staff as students pass beneath the Arch
- A “walk-through soundtrack” feature that assigns each student a personalized entrance theme
- Optional Oiler Mobile app connectivity to track Arch crossings for prizes, campus bragging rights, and exclusive “frequent walker” perks
- A “finals week mode” in which the Arch offers gentle encouragement, stress-relief soundscapes, and the occasional reminder to submit assignments before 11:59 p.m.
- Scheduled “Arch Hours” featuring live DJ sets and faculty karaoke appearances
