What steps can you take to prevent workplace violence? Randy Van Dyne, the University of Findlay’s All Hazards Training Center executive director, is an expert on the subject. He recently spoke at the 2018 Ohio News Media Association’s convention regarding safety measures media outlets can implement, which is one of the center’s specialties.
At ONMA’s request, Van Dyne summarized his talk in a column that identifies three key measures to take to improve security for staff and facilities. They include:
- Maintaining regular communication with local law enforcement agencies
- Continuous active shooter training and drills for all employees
- Implementing a proven violence prevention program that includes creating a “threat assessment management team.”
