Winter College ’20 to Feature Art & Alzheimer’s, UF Brain Cancer Research, & Trends in Animal Research
Dreaming of sun and sand? Join us in Florida this February! The University’s annual Winter College in Naples and reception in Tampa are planned for February 2020.
Winter College will be held Wednesday, Feb. 12 in Naples, Florida.
Presentations will include:
- “The Impact of Art in Alzheimer’s Patients”: Dr. Lindsey Buddelmeyer, UF assistant professor in occupational therapy, will talk about how art and occupational therapy come together to help those with Alzheimer’s. Recently, Dr. Buddelmeyer facilitated a research course with OT students in partnership with UF’s Mazza Museum, Awakening Minds Art, and The Legacy nursing home to experience the positive impact OT can have on memory challenges through painting.
- “Current Trends in Animal Research & its Impact on Your Health”: Jennifer C. Smith ’91 D.V.M., Bioresources Department director for Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, MI and UF Trustee, will discuss current trends in biomedical research as it pertains to animal and human health and what the future might hold.
- “UF Pharmacy Students & Glioblastoma Brain Cancer Research”: Laura Inbody, current fifth year pharmacy student, will discuss an overview of their brain cancer research that caught the eye of national media this past fall. Inbody will also highlight the importance of undergraduate research and the role that this research project has played in shaping her future goals.
Winter College will also include lunch and a University of Findlay update by President Katherine Fell, Ph.D.
A reception will be held before the main event. The Tampa-St. Petersburg area reception will take place Monday, Feb. 10 from 6-9 p.m. at The Hangar Restaurant & Flight Lounge at Albert Whitted Airport in Saint Petersburg, FL.
