$250,000 Donation Will Allow the University to Expand Programming for Alumni, Parents and Friends

Alumnus Harold P. “Herk” Wolfe ’54 and his wife, Patte (Gohlke) Wolfe, recently made a $250,000 campaign commitment to the Give Voice to Your Values comprehensive campaign at The University of Findlay to name and endow the Center for Alumni, Parents and Friends.
The funds will provide a permanent endowment to financially support the outreach programs of the Center, which is located in the Glenn ’42 and Helen Stout House at 1015 N. Main St., Findlay. With this generous donation, the University will significantly expand its programming for its alumni, parents and friends.
“As an alumnus, Herk has been loyal, actively involved, a committed advocate and extraordinarily generous,” said Dee Dee Spraw, director of the Center. “We give our sincere thanks to Herk and Patte, and we are deeply touched and honored by their gift.”
Wolfe joined Wyandot Dolomite, Inc., in 1959 as a weigh master and quickly worked his way up as stone and aggregate salesman and sales manager. He served as vice president of sales from 1966-77 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 1970. He served as president from 1977-1991 and was chairman from 1991-2004.  Prior to his career at Wyandot Dolomite, he was a salesman for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. from 1954-59.
Wolfe was an active member of many professional and civic organizations.

“Herk,” as he’s been known since his college days as a basketball stand­out, was the nation’s leading scorer in 1952-53 and still holds Findlay’s single game scoring record of 61 points. He was named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Basketball Hall of Fame in 1965, the then-Findlay College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1972 and the Hancock County Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988.  He was recognized by The University of Findlay as a Distin­guished Alumnus in 1965 and was honored as a Distinguished Associate in 1994. He also served as a member of the UF Board of Trustees from 2006 to 2012.
“The Wolfe family has played a pivotal role in the growth of the University for decades. This gift exemplifies Herk and Patte’s joy in giving for the benefit of others,” said UF President Katherine Fell, Ph.D.
John W. Mosser, Vice President for University Advancement added, “This gift provides a true legacy for a couple who have served the University with dedication, distinction and enthusiasm for years.”
Herk and Patte reside in Bonita Springs, Fla.
A dedication ceremony will be held during Homecoming in the fall.
