Chelsea Boehm 2021 Student Intern of the Year Gives Back

University of Findlay’s Center for Career & Professional Development Services (CCPD) office announced Chelsea Boehm ’21 as their 2021 Student Intern of the Year.

Boehm is a 2013 graduate of Hardin Northern High School. After graduating from high school, decided to further her education by getting her associate’s degree in digital multimedia. Once Boehm received her associate’s degree, she worked fulltime for approximately three and a half years. “During this time, I realized that I wasn’t quite happy with what I was doing and still felt I had a lot to learn and a lot I wanted to do. So, that’s when I decided I really wanted to go back to school,” said Boehm. Once Boehm decided that a bachelor’s degree in marketing management was the path she wanted to take, she did some research and reached out to Findlay’s Office of Admissions for more information. “When I went and visited UF’s campus, it just felt like a step in the right direction,” mentioned Boehm.
After enrolling at Findlay, Boehm decided to meet with Brad Hammer, director of career and professional development, to get an idea of what the CCPD office offered. Hammer helped Boehm with her job and internship search, suggested career fairs and workshops, made sure she had a professional headshot, assisted her on improving her LinkedIn page, and more. Soon after, Boehm landed a social media intern position at Garner Trucking, Inc. Following her graduation from UF in May 2021 and her time as an intern, Boehm now holds a fulltime social media specialist position at Garner Trucking.
“I am grateful for the CCPD office, they were that connection between me and Garner Trucking. I don’t know if I would’ve gotten this opportunity without the guidance of Hammer and everyone else in that office,” stated Boehm. Along with receiving the title of 2021 Student Intern of the Year, Boehm also received a check for $500.00. Boehm loves animals and decided to use this money to buy supplies for the Hancock County Humane Society here in Findlay, as well as local shelters in Hardin County. She stated, “this is just a small way for me to give back.”
Boehm’s coworkers at Garner Trucking nominated her for the 2021 Student Intern of the Year award. “My team members did a really, really nice job of what they wrote and had included in their nomination submission,” said Boehm. “It’s one of those things that just kind of makes you think ‘wow,’ we have a really great team here. From the very beginning, this team has treated me as part of the Garner family and it’s just been an awesome experience, you can tell they really care about their employees.”
In closing, Boehm added, “attending Findlay has honestly been the best decision I could’ve made and leaving a fulltime job to go back to school is a very big decision. I’ve really found a passion for marketing at UF. All of my professors have been excellent and I feel like they really care about us students and our successes.” And it seems that attending Findlay wasn’t only a benefit to her, but a good sized one for the people at Garner Trucking as well.
