Oiler Mobile App Wins Title of “Best Student Engagement App” by Modo Labs

The University of Findlay’s Oiler Mobile App recently won the title of Best Student Engagement App at the fourth annual “Appademy Awards” hosted by Modo Labs. Additionally, the app was nominated and recognized as one of the Best Overall Apps.

Modo Labs explained in The Best University Mobile Apps of 2020 press release the Universities nominated for the 10 categories of the Appademy Awards, “transform their campus experience with a personalized and engaging digital app that connects and elevates their users to succeed. In 2020, COVID-19 forced schools from across the country and the world to move off-campus overnight and their app played an instrumental role in keeping all safe, connected and engaged.”

The two categories for which the Oiler Mobile App was nominated are as follows:

Best Student Engagement App for, “apps that engage students in unique and meaningful ways. Specially highlighting their creativity and capability to be iterative during COVID-19,” said the Modo Labs press release. The University of Findlay won in this category for continually engaging with students through push notifications and informing them of important and relevant information and encouraging students to interact through game shows, trivias, and picture contests.

Best Overall App category recognized, “the best campus apps of the year that have also been iterative on accommodating for the switch to the new normal by rethinking their app home screen and resources, hosting virtual events on the app and using communications to keep their campus informed and engaged.” Findlay’s app was nominated for this category for the seamless, overnight change in design and function as well as the constant communications to the campus community regarding COVID-19.
