The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) recently selected Sophia R. Chhay ’16 as its 2017-18 Executive Fellow in Association Leadership and Management. Housed in the global headquarters of ASHP in Bethesda, Maryland, the program trains pharmacists in the many facets of not-for-profit association leadership and management. Topics studied will include policy analysis and development, marketing and communications, strategic planning, human resources and executive leadership.
As a student at the University of Findlay College of Pharmacy, Chhay was an active leader within her local Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists and completed a student rotation at ASHP. She is currently a PGY1 pharmacy resident at Erie Veterans Administration Medical Center in Erie, Pa., and serves on the ASHP Council on Education and Workforce Development. She also participated in ASHP’s Policy Week 2016 and Legislative Day on Capitol Hill.
“We are extremely pleased to have Sophia join us as the 2017-2018 ASHP Executive Fellow,” said CEO Paul W. Abramowitz, Pharm.D., Sc.D. (Hon.), FASHP. “Sophia’s engagement as a volunteer and her passion for serving members and advancing pharmacy practice make her a perfect fit for this highly regarded program. The entire ASHP team looks forward to mentoring Sophia and helping her achieve her goals as a future leader.”
Chhay will begin her fellowship in July 2017 and will be engaged in projects and activities throughout the year that will serve as the foundation of her training.
