The Real Criminal Justice: Uncovering Common Misconceptions

University of Findlay’s Criminal Justice and Forensic Science Club will present “The Real Criminal Justice” on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m.

The presentation will take place in the Ritz Auditorium in Old Main and is free for UF students, faculty, and staff with a valid UF ID, or $1 at the door for community members.

Dr. Stephen Tate, director of the Psychological Services Division of the Houston Police Department, will discuss common misconceptions of criminal justice, mental health issues, and what it’s like to protect and serve in a city with 6 million people.

Dr. Tate, a Findlay native, received his Doctorate of Psychology in 2002 and also holds the credentials of Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor, and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. He has held his current position with the Houston Police Department since 2015 where he oversees the day-to-day operation of the division and ensures it appropriately meets the most important mental and emotional health needs of law enforcement personnel.

Prior to this role, Dr. Tate also served as a Clinical Psychologist for Premier Psychological Services in Houston, TX; Clinical Psychologist for R3 Continuum in Wyoming, MI; Clinical Psychologist for Senior Connections, Inc. in Houston, TX; and Behavioral Health Consultant for Lawndale Christian Health Center in Chicago, IL among many others.
